I apologize for my hiatus and for reneging on my promise to provide recaps from the wedding. Life got busy and (honestly) the task felt too arduous to ever get started. Maybe I'll get back to it one day, but for now, Javier and I are starting on another adventure that I'm hoping to write about...
We're moving to QUITO, ECUADOR!
We've spent the last year (or so) investigating job opportunities abroad. Javier has been participating in an online program to get his teaching license in DC, and I finally got around to taking the exams to complete my VA license. My Dad put us in touch with a contact he had at AASSA, who suggested we attend their job fair in Atlanta back in November. We learned a TON at the job fair (there is this whole network of these International Schools and teachers that work at them...living and traveling all over the world) and had two soft offers from a school in La Paz, Bolivia and Colegio Menor in Quito, Ecuador (our first choice going into the fair!) when we left.
Now we're under contract and solidly headed for Quito in August. I'm going to be teaching 8th grade World History and Javier will be working in the English department. All subjects are taught in English at the school (so I can start teaching on day one!). The school actually looks for native English speakers (recruiting in the US, UK and Australia) so we won't be the only ex-pats hanging about the campus. I'm hoping to learn Spanish while we're there, and Javs is going to perfect his (even though I think his is already pretty good...). We're also hoping to make a few friends and have a few adventures :)
Check out our awesome school:
I'm going to be trying my best to keep our friends and family at home updated via Head(s) Over Heels, so feel free to check in to see what we're up to. (Maybe I'll even throw in a hilarious post or two about our attempt to pack, store and move our belongings from the US to our new abode in South America.)
